The business initially started in 1993, when I discovered I was good at writing résumés and enjoyed doing it. Finding something I loved doing—and could work to keep getting better at—spurred me to stick with it. I choose not to put time and energy into something unless I believe I can do my very best at it. When you do it right and it makes a difference to people, that’s what matters to me.
If you asked me what makes the business so great, I’d say it’s the clients who get good results from our work together. That’s the payoff. With all the stresses life throws at us these days, if I can help lower the stress level with positive results, that’s huge.
One of my clients told me years ago, “You made working on this practically painless.” I’ve cherished that because it’s exactly how I want clients to feel. I provide a value they need when they don’t have all the resources themselves, and they know they can count on me to come through for them.
A Successful Career offers a wide range of services. Depending on your situation, you might need a résumé, cover letter, executive bio, LinkedIn profile, interview/job search coaching—or all of the above! We discuss your needs and what makes the best sense for your situation. I make recommendations based on that discussion.
Ideal clients can be either male or female, but they’re mainly at or near a senior-level position in their career. I prefer that clients have a sense of where they’re headed—a direction in mind—even if they don’t completely know yet how they’re going to get there. It doesn’t matter where they’re located because I work virtually, but most of them are in the United States. However, I enjoy diversity and have worked with many clients who came to the United States from other countries. (I think I counted 40+ countries at one point!)
While you’re here on the website, it’s easy to take the first step. Simply send an inquiry form or schedule a preliminary phone call. It’s a discovery process that doesn’t require you to make a commitment until you choose to move forward.
In most cases, the phone consultation leads to my emailing a project quote for your consideration. Whether or not we move ahead from there depends primarily on you. I never pressure people to make a commitment they’re not ready for.
Start by doing your due diligence. This website contains a lot of information that explains what my business can do for you and the principles it’s based on, such as integrity and quality. Customer service means more than a nice-sounding concept, and my clients know that from experience. My commitment to professionalism represents a key piece of the puzzle as well. You can start with a phone consultation that doesn’t obligate you in any way. It’s that simple.
